Loud and in our faces Eminem smashed onto the music scene in 1999 and we have been fascinated with his growing tattoo collection ever since.
In the early 2000’s it was still quite shocking to see arm sleeve tattoos, especially ones with so much detail.
He was brave, he led the way on detailed storytelling tattoos. Most tattoos before this point were just one or two inked pieces, spread out on the body, when Eminem had RIP Ronnie with the weird mushroom cloud, it was all anyone talked about for a while. Paparazzi trying to get a one-shot of “that tattoo,” News reports of Eminem having fully inked half his arm.
The world was quite shocked for a moment, I remember it well.
Even today in 2018 we think his tattoos have stood the test of time well and we love them as much today as we secretly did 18 years ago!
1. RIP RONNIE
Eminem got this tattoo as a mark of respect for his uncle, Ronnie Pilkington, who committed suicide back in 1991. Eminem was close to his uncle, who first introduced him to HipHop, his music often includes uncle Ronnie in some of his lyrics. Eminem has been asked about this tattoo more than his music sometimes and is quoted as describing it as “An evil mushroom skull being burned alive as it descends into the fiery depths of hell.”
2. BONNIE & CLYDE
This tattoo is a portrait of Eminem’s daughter, Hailie Jade Scott, on a bed of Roses. With a 1930’s getaway car underneath. The words “Bonnie &Clyde” is in reference to his song from the Slim Shady EP in 1997, where he equates his daughter and himself to Bonnie & Clyde, the 20th-century couple that robbed banks.
3. THE BADASS INFAMOUS D12
Hip Hop group of 12 rappers from Detroit, Eminem’s original partners in crime. We love the homage paid in the form of these tattoos.
4. BEST FRIEND “PROOF’
Eminems tattoo inside the left forearm is in memory of his late best friend and fellow rapper, Proof of D12, who was shot dead in 2006, and had a tattoo exactly the same. The two first met in 1988 and have been best friends ever since. When Proof died Eminem was devastated.
5. TRIBAL WRIST TATTOO
A tribal tattoo on his left wrist – Eminem claims he does not remember the meaning of this tattoo, implying that he was not in his right senses when he got it done.
6. WRIST TATTOO – SLIT ME
The words “Slit Me” on the inside of the right wrist – likely a literal reference to the suicidal tendencies he had experienced at certain points of his life.
7. ROT IN PIECES
This tattoo is aimed at Eminem’s (divorced) wife Kim Scott. he had it done one night after a fight with Kim, assuming he would never get back together with her. It shows a picture of an open grave with the words “Rot in Pieces” below.
8. HIS DAUGHTERS NAME SCRIPTED
The name of his daughter Hailie Jade inked upwards within an ancient scroll.
